Introduction to Rap in Lebanon

Lebanese Rap started in the late 1990\'s. It was still in its early stages and remaining to grow into an identifiable Lebanese form or art. It developed through years and started gaining grounds in the local music scene. Two Rap crews emerged at that time ‘Kitta3 B’ and ‘Aks'ser’.

Since then, many musicians got inspired and started looking for different ways to express themselves within the Lebanese Hip-Hop Culture. There were various expressions and flows and many practiced the ‘Beat Box’.

Today, Lebanese Rap takes the identity of the performer forward and ties it strongly to the Lebanese culture. Rap had found its place internationally as well in the Lebanese musical scene. Numerous Lebanese ‘Hip-Hoppers’ were invited to perform in different countries around the world. The Lebanese cultural scene, and especially the ‘non-main stream’ form of art, suffered enormously for a long time. The reasons are many to list, but the obvious lie on the continuous instability of the country, and by neglecting the role and the existence of artists.

IN CONCERT intends, through its artistic program, to provide an opportunity for Lebanese artists to grow, by expanding their skills and techniques through workshops given by professionals. IN CONCERT will also provide few talented young groups the opportunity to perform beside an international group Under Kontrol, French Beat Box Champions “PHM”. This event is also an opportunity to let the audience discover Arabic hip-hop.
